Originally from Warwick in South-East Queensland, Andrew has completed studies at the University of Southern Queensland and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, receiving numerous scholarships and awards, and is an alumni of the International Vocal Arts Institute's Tel Aviv Summer Opera Programme, and has recently completed the prestigious Opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was awarded the Harold Rosenthal Prize, studying with Robert Dean. His Guildhall school studies were supported by the Worshipful Company of Curriers, the Hazell Scholarship, the Margery and Frederick Stephen Wright Eisinger Bursary, and he continues to be supported by the Opus 50 Charitable Trust. During his studies Andrew has performed Slook (Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonia) English Archer (Aulis Sallinen's The King Goes forth to France), Vertigo (Gluck's La Rencontre Imprévue), Macheath (Gay's The Beggar's Opera), Billy Bigelow (Roger's Carousel), Ernesto (Haydn's Il Mondo della Luna), David (Baber's Hand of Bridge), Dr Gregg (Moore's Gallantry), Ben (Menotti's The Telephone) Masino (Haydn's La Vera Costanza), Faure's Requiem, Britten's Canticle IV: Journey of the Magi, Haydn's Creation, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs. Last year Andrew performed the role of Mr Brooke in the Israeli premiere of Mark Adamo’s opera Little Women, and covered the role of Steward in Jonathan Dove’s opera Flight for British Youth Opera. Andrew has been a finalist in the Stuart Burrows International Voice Award and the Australian Singing Competition Mathy Awards, winning the Nelly Apt Scholarship. He is also a recipient of the Sydney de Vries Memorial Award for Baritone in the City of Sydney Eisteddfod, and placed third in the Australian National Aria Competition. Andrew has performed in Masterclasses with Håkan Hagegård, Thomas Hampson, Joan Dornemann, Mary King, John Mark Ainsley and Michael Lewis. Last year Andrew performed as soloist in Alisdair Nicholson's Two Sisters, A Rose, A Flood and Snow with the London Symphony Orchestra in the Barbican Centre, was a guest performer with emerging chamber group The Prince Consort, was a soloist with the All Souls' Orchestra at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, and performed with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Maestro Paul Nadler in a Gala Concert at the New Israeli Opera. In July Andrew will perform Schaunard (Puccini’s La Boheme) for Longborough Festival Opera and in September will join the Internationales Operastudio for the 2009/10 season. Next year Andrew will also take part in a Samling Foundation Masterclass with Sir Thomas Allen. |
